We all want our writing to capture people’s attention and keep them reading. How do we do that? Here’s a quick video that explains my top piece of advice on how to do this. If you can master this tip, you’ll never lack readers . . .

P.S. Hey, I’m working on a new product and would love your help. Would you be willing to take a quick survey for me? It’ll take you less than 90 seconds (it’s only 3 questions), and it’ll help me get a better idea of how to serve you. To take the survey, click here.
Great tip. This is the model I most enjoy reading and listening to myself, so makes sense that is what others also would want!
Pushing down to the bottom of the pyramid. Makes so much sense. I have been working on this. Thanks for the great reminder to keep at it.
Thank you Chad — a vivid way to put my own crucial challenge as an academic writing for a non-academic readership.
The captive audience of the classroom, and the kinds of writing academics do for each other tip the balance toward that abstract tip of the pyramid. I know that If I can flip it I’ll be a better teacher as well as a better writer.
(And the academic writing that really helps academics follows your advice too! Maybe we just favor the abstract out of ignorance or laziness. Hmm…)
You said it, not me! No, seriously, I do think there’s something to that. Thanks for the comment. Glad this little vid was helpful to you…
Thanks for all the survey responses, everybody. Hugely helpful!! If you haven’t filled out this 3-question survey yet, head over to https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RXZRSGD.
What a neat concept, Chad. Thanks for sharing. Off to the survey.
Thanks, Cheryl! Most appreciated.
