I wanted to bring you up to speed on a few things and then just for fun share some videos that have caught my attention lately.
Goings-On
In terms of goings-on, here and there I’ll be cutting back to one post a week so I have time to work on some ebook projects and guest posts.
Write On
My hope is to release a free ebook manifesto in the coming months. I’m really excited about how it’s coming together. Keep an eye out!
I haven’t forgotten about all the input I received in response to my post “Which Book Should I Write?” I will keep working on this and hopefully publish it later this year. If you have any other ideas, drop me a line anytime.
I’ll be sure to let you know about guest posts and where they appear.
And So On!
And now for some videos!
Sir Ken Robinson is brilliant on the current state of education, and this is an entertaining way to hear some of what he has to say. Fascinating stuff.
Dr. Brene Brown is a storyteller and researcher who does a lot of work on shame. It’s beautiful stuff. Here’s part of an interview she did with Oprah.
Go, Chad, go! Looking forward to some more awesomeness from you!
Thanks, Cynthia. I could use some encouragement right about now. Wrestling with MailChimp!
Maybe Natasha could do a tutorial. I think many of us would benefit! 🙂 But nevertheless, I raise my pom pon to you! Anyone who does what you do can wrangle MailChimp. 🙂
Chad, I’ll look forward to that one post a week — and to the ebook manifesto! May your writing be a joy.
Thanks, Gary. Trying to figure out MailChimp today!
Good luck — I bet Natasha can help!
lol! Absolutely. 🙂 Chad, if you have any questions getting set up, shoot me an email. Happy to help. If you’re using it to send emails automatically of your blog posts, here is what you need: http://mailchimp.com/features/rss-to-email/
Natasha, do you know if MailChimp can be used with a wordpress.com blog?(That’s the free hosting version and has its own “widgets” but seems to bar “plug-ins”)
Gary, I’m not sure about wordpress.com – I am on a self hosted account and use plugins. Try searching the MailChimp site for info on it, or even contact their tech support – I’m sure many have asked the question!
Loved the education one–favorite line “It starts somewhere in Oklahoma.” As an educator, I’ve always believed that many of the ADD cases were simply a case of ‘Absent Daddy Dysfunction’ (or absent parent dysfunction). Education is like a three-legged stool. The most successful students have good teachers, active parents (and I’m not talking about the ‘doing their kid’s homework type of parent, I’m talking about parents who actively parent their children by setting boundaries, expectations and helping their child feel like a valued member of the family and society) and self-involvement (NOT kids that are involved in every sport, music and extracurricular activity available–kids need time to play outside, nurture their creativity and maintain their innocent wonder at the world). If ANY one of the legs is missing, the education system fails to work. More tests won’t solve the problem, helicopter parents won’t solve the problem, legislation won’t solve the problem. Ok. I’ll step off my soap box now ;).
Best of luck with your writing projects! I look forward to seeing the results.
Thanks, Anita. Insightful comments!
Good luck with your writing projects, Chad!
I watched the education video and found it really interesting – especially the part about the deterioration in divergent thinking over the course of “education.” I’m debating homeschooling vs. private Christian school right now, so this is top of mind (my twins will start Kindergarten next year). Thanks for sharing!
My oldest is in kindergarten right now, and it’s been so much fun to watch and help learn to do things like read and tell stories. Enjoy!
